Instance guide: Halls of Night

As one of the most uniquely themed instances in LOTRO, the Halls of Night is a three-person dungeon that centers around an ancient tomb in Angmar only recently rediscovered. The leader of nearby Aughaire has called for adventurers to explore the tomb even though there are clear indications that danger awaits inside. Players who heed this call will make a metaphysical journey to an astral plane where the demon Nightmare and its thralls Terror and Panic make their home. And if this instance is 3spooky5u, remember that it’s all a dream and listen to some of the best music in the game.

Instance guide: Ost Elendil

‘In and out within ten minutes’ – that’s what they should call this fast-food instance. Ost Elendil is located in the heart of Annúminas in the region of Evendim or ‘Everswim’ as it is more colloquially known. This six-person instance features two boss encounters amongst a smattering of trash mobs but you can boil it all down to three pulls of varying size: the appetizer, the main course, and a marathon dessert rolled out slowly so you can savor every bite. Be sure to also check out Department of Strategery’s guide to Haudh Valendil.

Featured instances: how do they work?

In tandem with the three Battle of Pelennor instances, the featured instance function arrived on the scene at the launch of update 18 in an effort to recycle old and lesser-run instances for new rewards. Each week one instance is highlighted in the instance finder and for completing that instance at level 100-105, players receive a box of spoils which contain barter items, essences, scrolls of empowerment, slotted jewelry and new essence set gear. Turbine team member EdgeCase shares an overview in the featured instance developer diary, and this guide is intended to expound upon those details.

The instance takes place in Goblin-town in the Misty Mountains and, as one might expect, Seat of the Great Goblin is packed full of all manner of goblins and other foul creatures. There are two main boss encounters in this instance. The first is a troll named Grudom at the bottom of a pit used by the goblins to cast refuse. The second encounter takes place at the throne of the goblin king. Players will face a barrage of enemies and take part in disrupting the succession of the goblin hierarchy.
